A Century of Service: The Kiwanis Club of Owen Sound

From its beginning in 1925, members of the Kiwanis Club of Owen Sound have volunteered their time to make a difference in the lives of children -- both locally and internationally. In the early years, that meant clothing, life-altering medical treatments, and medical aids for families that could little afford them. During the Depression, the work of the club shifted to providing summer camps for underprivileged children and their mothers, employment for the unemployed, and, at the end of the 1930s, preparations for war. Over the years, major projects have included the Kiwanis Santa Claus Parade; the Kiwanis Music Festival, the Kiwanis Whispering Pines Campground, the Kiwanis Christmas Tree sales, the Gichi-Name Wiikwedong Reconciliation Garden, the Kiwanis Soccer Complex, the Kiwanis OSHaRE kitchen, the Kiwanis Hospice Kids' Room...the list goes on and on.
